Starting with the Grand Piano, we decided to move with a stereo XY pair of AT4031 cardiod pencil condesers over the center of the pianos hammers. To compare we used a pair of U87 microphones over one of the ports as well as the reflections from the cover. For the vocals we set up a U87 in an isolated area with GOBOS so Rebecca could communicate with Julianna. In the ISO booth we set up Alan with his 2x10 homemade cab. One was mic'd with a homemade CRAS ribbon mic and the other with a SM-57. To also get a clean sound for a possible re-amping later we chose to record with a CRAS DI. The results were very promising during tracking and I will post the results below.
